wedged in the glass
fills its small
liquid space
with white filaments.

The hexagonal
green stem
grows its own
velvet hairs,
and the leaf
unfurls,

a gesture we
abandoned
teaching our tongues
and breath
to flip
the glottal
flaps
toward
speech.
