What have we lost?
What can be reclaimed?
Not wealth grasped
in the hand, nor life
that defies death.

Digging in this rocky soil
redigging the wells
of my ancestors,
I hear their whispered
questions rising.

The sweet waters pool
in the trembling darkness
far below.
